Why we stop where we stop
Ethics & Boundaries
Most products don't cross lines on day one.
They cross them slowly — one feature at a time.
We've learned that if boundaries aren't clear from the start, they eventually disappear.
This page exists to be explicit about where Mirrorfolio stops —even when stopping is inconvenient.
The core principle
Mirrorfolio is built to reduce uncertainty —not to create control.
That means helping families notice meaningful changes, without watching, tracking, or directing how someone lives.
What we will not do
Mirrorfolio will never:
- ×use cameras or microphones
- ×ask your parent to wear or charge something
- ×record conversations or movements
- ×score, rank, or judge behavior
- ×nudge, remind, or pressure your parent to act
- ×turn daily life into something that feels monitored
If a feature makes a home feel watched,we don't build it.
Consent, as it actually works
Mirrorfolio is not something you secretly install.
Caregivers give informed consent.
Parents give clear, ethical assent.
That means:
- they know something exists
- they know what it does and what it doesn't
- they don't feel watched, tricked, or managed
If assent isn't real, we don't proceed.
Silence is a design choice
Many systems prove their value by interrupting you.
Mirrorfolio does the opposite.
When nothing meaningful changes, it stays silent —
because noise creates anxiety, not clarity.
We would rather miss a weak signalthan surface something misleading.
Escalation has limits
Some situations carry more weight than others.
For example, missing a time-sensitive medication is different from a routine happening later than usual.
In those cases, escalation is:
- contextual
- rare
- based on what is drifting and why it matters
Even then, Mirrorfolio informs — it does not instruct.
What we are not responsible for
Mirrorfolio is not responsible for outcomes.
It doesn't prevent emergencies.
It doesn't guarantee safety.
It doesn't replace medical care or family judgment.
Its role is limited by design —to reduce blindness, not eliminate risk.
Data, simply explained
Most context stays inside the home.
What leaves the home is minimal — only what's needed to share meaningful insights with family.
We don't sell data.
We don't use it for advertising.
We don't quietly expand scope.
If we ever change these rules, this page changes first.
Why this costs money
Mirrorfolio isn't free — intentionally.
Free products are often paid for with attention, data, or pressure.
We charge so we can:
- avoid advertising incentives
- avoid growth-at-any-cost decisions
- say "no" when saying "yes" would break trust
These boundaries are not flexible.
They make the product harder to build —
and the business slower to grow.
We accept that tradeoff.
